To celebrate the Día de la Raza (Day of Race), The International Institute for Peace (IIP) at Rutgers University, is promoting at campus of Newark, N.J., the event Hip Hop for Urban Peace; a hip-hop art festival comprising music, breakdancing and graffiti.
Throughout Latin America as well as in the United States among the Hispanic community, October 12 is celebrated as the Day of Race, in memory of the first encounters of Europeans with Native Americans. It is an important day in which Hispanic activists rally to promote social justice.
The Hip Hop for Urban Peace is a kick off day to start a conversation with youth communities in Newark and New Jersey and to implement strategies for youth violence prevention, all of this is part of the social campaign parallel to the release of the feature film El regreso de Lencho.
